أخبرَناه أحمد بن محمد بن سَلَمة العَنَزي، حَدَّثَنَا عثمان بن سعيد الدَّارِمي، حَدَّثَنَا عبد الله بن صالح، حدثني الليث بن سعد، حدثني أبو الزُّبير، عن جابر، عن رسولِ الله ﷺ: أنه نَهَى عن اشتِمَال الصَّمَّاء، وأن يرفعَ الرجلُ إحدى رِجلَيه على الأخرى وهو مُستَلقي على ظَهْرِه (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade ishtimal al-samma' (wrapping the whole body in a single sheet in such a way that the hands cannot come out), and also forbade a man from lying flat on his back and raising one of his legs over the other.

(1) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن في المتابعات والشواهد من أجل عبد الله بن صالح: وهو كاتب الليث المصري، وقد توبع.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and in the context of corroborating chains and supporting reports this chain of it is "hasan" because of "'Abd Allah bin Salih" (who is the scribe of al-Layth bin Sa'd al-Misri), and there is also corroboration for him.
وأخرجه أحمد (23/ 14770)، ومسلم (2099) (72)، وأبو داود (4865)، والترمذي (2767)، والنسائي (9668)، وابن حبان (5553) من طرق عن الليث بن سعد، بهذا الإسناد. ورواية أبي داود مختصرة دون اشتمال الصماء.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Imam Ahmad (23/ 14770), Imam Muslim (2099) (72), Abu Dawud (4865), Imam al-Tirmidhi (2767), Imam al-Nasa'i (9668) and Ibn Hibban (5553) through various routes from al-Layth bin Sa'd, with this same chain.
Details of the narration: The narration of Imam Abu Dawud is abridged, and "ishtimal al-samma'" (wrapping a garment in a particular way) is not mentioned in it.

وأخرج قصة النهي عن اشتمال الصماء أحمد (22/ 14546) من طريق عبد الله بن محمد بن عقيل، عن جابر، عن النَّبِيّ ﷺ.
