Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7870

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever seeks forgiveness abundantly, Allah Almighty makes for him relief from every worry and a way out of every hardship, and provides for him from where he does not even imagine."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its narrator al-Hakam bin Mus'ab is "majhul" (unknown); al-Walid bin Muslim is alone in narrating from him. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Majruhin" (1/ 249) and said that he is alone in reporting things whose lack of authenticity is not denied by the experts of this field (the specialists of hadith); it is not permissible to use him as proof (ihtijaj), and his narration may only be written for "i'tibar" (support). Although Ibn Hibban also mentioned him in "al-Thiqat", there too he described him as "making errors".
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Imam Ahmad (4/ 2234), Abu Dawud (1518), Ibn Majah (3819) and al-Nasa'i (10217) through various routes from al-Walid bin Muslim, with this same chain; however, 'Ali bin 'Abd Allah bin 'Abbas is not mentioned in the narration of Ibn Majah.
