It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty forgives His servant - or (he said) accepts His servant's repentance - as long as his death rattle has not begun (that is, until the throes of death set in and the gurgling in the throat begins)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan". Technical note / Defect ('illah): It is (only) hasan on account of Abd al-Rahman bin Thabit bin Thawban, while Ali bin Asim al-Wasiti has weakness, but he has been corroborated. Reference / Source: Ahmad (10/ 6160) and (6408), al-Tirmidhi (3537) and Ibn Hibban (628) narrated it via various routes from Abd al-Rahman bin Thabit bin Thawban, with this same chain. Grading: Al-Tirmidhi declared it "hasan gharib". 5/ 160. Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (4253) narrated it via al-Walid bin Muslim, from Ibn Thawban, from his father, from Makhul, from Jubayr, from Abd Allah bin Amr. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Making this narration a hadith of Abd Allah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) is a "wahm" (error), which al-Mizzi pointed out in "Tuhfat al-Ashraf" (6674) and al-Dhahabi in "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" (5/ 160). Note / Clarification: For further clarification, see the following hadiths. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also a narration from Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him), found with al-Tabari (Tafsir 4/ 302-303) and al-Quda'i (Musnad al-Shihab 1085). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its narrators are thiqah, but this chain is "munqati'" (broken in the middle). 4/ 302. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration is reported from Bushayr bin Ka'b and al-Hasan al-Basri as "mursal" with al-Tabari (4/ 302).
