It is narrated from Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The wise person is the one who holds himself to account and works for (the life) after death, and the incapable, foolish person is the one who makes himself follow his desires and then merely pins his hopes on Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
