أخبرنا أبو علي الحافظ، أخبرنا علي بن العباس البَجَلي، حَدَّثَنَا يحيى بن حَكيم، حَدَّثَنَا خالد بن الحارث، حَدَّثَنَا شُعبة، أخبرني عَدِيُّ بن ثابت وعطاء بن السائب، عن سعيد بن جُبير، عن ابن عباس - قال شعبةُ: ذكرَ أحدُهما عن رسول الله ﷺ - قال: "إنَّ جبريلَ ﵇ جعلَ يَدُسُّ في فَمِ فرعونَ الطِّينَ خَشْيةَ أن يقولَ: لا إله إلَّا الله، فيرَحِمَهُ اللهُ ﷿" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه. وله شاهدٌ من حديث علي بن زيد:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Jibril (peace be upon him) began stuffing mud into the mouth of Pharaoh, fearing that he might say 'La ilaha illallah (there is no god but Allah)' and that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, would then have mercy on him."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
