Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: From the beginning of the chain of this hadith up to here, the manuscripts are severely confused (idtirab); we have recorded the correct text by combining (talfiq) them after comparing the different manuscripts.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, but it is actually the narration of Salman bin 'Amir al-Dabbi.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrators of this chain are thiqah except 'Abd Allah bin al-Mukhtar; although he is saduq (truthful) and hasan al-hadith, he made an error in this narration. He narrated it from Ibn Sirin from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) (that is, he followed the well-trodden path, tariq al-jaddah). Imam al-Daraqutni says in "al-'Ilal" (1452) that the correct version is what the hafiz students of Ibn Sirin (Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani, Hisham, Qatadah, Yahya bin 'Atiq and others) narrated from him, from Salman bin 'Amir al-Dabbi, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Reference / Source: The (error-based) narration of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) was narrated by Imam al-Bazzar (in his "Musnad" 9988), Bahshal in "Tarikh Wasit" (p. 238) and Abu al-'Abbas al-Asamm in "Majmu' Musannafatih" (144) by way of Isra'il al-Sabi'i, from 'Abd Allah bin al-Mukhtar, with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Bazzar says that we know of no one other than Isra'il (al-Sabi'i) who narrated it from 'Abd Allah bin al-Mukhtar, from Muhammad (bin Sirin), from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him).

Grading: This narration is also reported as "mawquf" on Salman al-Dabbi (may Allah be pleased with him) (as his own statement); for reference see "Musnad Ahmad" (16230).

Reference / Source: This narration is also reported by way of Hafsah bint Sirin, from al-Rabab, from her paternal uncle Salman bin 'Amir al-Dabbi (may Allah be pleased with him); see "al-Musnad" 26/ (16226). It is also reported from Hafsah directly from Salman al-Dabbi (without any other intermediary); see "al-Musnad" (16229).
