Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7764

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "And do not eat of that over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned" [Surah al-An'am: 121]. He said: The polytheists disputed (with the Companions) and said: What you yourselves kill (that is, slaughter) you eat, but what Allah kills (that is, carrion) you do not eat.
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
