It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "O Messenger of Allah, Satan comes between me and my prayer and my recitation." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is a devil called 'Khinzab'. When you sense him, seek refuge with Allah from him and spit (three times) to your left." He said: I did so, and Allah removed that (whispering) from me.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although Yazid bin Harun heard from al-Jurayri (Sa'id bin Iyas) after his ikhtilat (deterioration), other narrators (who heard from him before his ikhtilat) corroborated him, so this narration is sahih. Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad, Muslim (2203) and other hadith scholars through various routes with the chain of al-Jurayri. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The author (al-Hakim) including it in al-Mustadrak is an oversight on his part, since it is already in Sahih Muslim.
