Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7692

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while there was a brass ring on my upper arm. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is this?" I said: "It is for al-wahinah (a weakening ailment)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Throw it away."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this name is corrupted and written as "Sulayman".

Grading: Its chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): According to the majority of critics, al-Hasan al-Basri did not hear from Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him). Moreover, the reliable (huffaz) students of al-Hasan narrated it from Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) as "mawquf", so the narration of those who report it as "marfu'" carries no weight against the huffaz who reported it as mawquf.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ibn Hibban (6088) via Musa bin Muhammad bin Hayyan, from Uthman bin Umar, with this chain, and in it there is this addition: "Would it please you to be left to rely on it? Throw it away from you."
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad 33/ (20000), Ibn Majah (3531) and Ibn Hibban (6085) through various routes from Mubarak bin Fadalah, from al-Hasan al-Basri, in the wording: "Indeed, it will only increase you in weakness. Throw it away from you, for if you died while it was on you, you would never succeed."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In it, Mubarak bin Fadalah is a "mudallis" and narrated with "'an" ('an'anah), except in the narration of Musnad Ahmad, in which he explicitly states hearing, but we have explained its error there.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ma'mar in his "Jami'" (20344), by Ibn Abi Shaybah (8/ 14) via Yunus bin Ubayd and Mansur bin Zadhan, and by al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (18/ 355) via Ishaq bin al-Rabi'.
Grading: All four (Ma'mar, Yunus, Mansur and Ishaq) narrate it from al-Hasan al-Basri, from Imran (may Allah be pleased with him), as "mawquf", and these chains from al-Hasan al-Basri are more authentic. Al-Tabarani also added another marfu' hadith to it.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a marfu' narration from Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Tabarani's "al-Kabir" (1439), but its chain is weak.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: There is also a narration from Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Tabarani (7700), and its chain is also weak.
Note / Clarification: "Al-sufr" means brass or copper.
