(1). It is narrated from Isa that he said: I went in to Abu Ma'bad al-Juhani (Abdullah bin Ukaym) while he was suffering from humrah (a skin disease), and I said: "Will you not hang something (for treatment)?" He said: "Death is nearer than that. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Whoever hangs something (an amulet or the like) is entrusted to it.'"

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla has a poor memory, and Abd Allah bin Ukaym did not hear from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so this narration of his is "mursal". Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Tirmidhi (2072) via Ubayd Allah bin Musa, from Muhammad bin Abi Layla, with this chain. Note / Clarification: Al-Tirmidhi says that the hadith of Abd Allah bin Ukaym is known only through Ibn Abi Layla, and that Abd Allah bin Ukaym did not hear from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) he used to say (in the form of a letter): "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote to us." Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad at 31/ (18781) from Waki' and at (18786) via Shu'bah, and by al-Tirmidhi (2072 M) via Yahya bin Sa'id; all three from Muhammad bin Abi Layla. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is the narration of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), recorded by al-Nasa'i (3528) via Abbad bin Maysarah al-Minqari, who is a "layyin" (weak) narrator. Technical note / Defect ('illah): In it, al-Hasan al-Basri's hearing from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) is not established. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abbad bin Maysarah was contradicted by the thiqah narrator Jarir bin Hazim, who narrated it from al-Hasan al-Basri as "mursal" (that is, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) without mention of a Companion). Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ibn Wahb in his "Jami'" (674 - Abu al-Khayr). Important point: In place of it, the hadith of Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) suffices, which is coming with the author at no. (7703): "Whoever hangs (a tamimah) has committed shirk."
