It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seek refuge with Allah from the evil eye, for the evil eye is real."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this wording; however, both of them agreed on the hadith of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "The evil eye is real."

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi", though this chain is "da'if" (weak) because of the weakness of Abu Waqid (Salih bin Muhammad bin Za'idah al-Laythi). Important point: Wuhayb is Ibn Khalid al-Bahili. Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ibn Majah (3508) via Abu Hisham al-Mughirah bin Salamah al-Makhzumi, from Wuhayb bin Khalid, with this chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In support of it there is the hadith of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), to which the author (al-Hakim) referred; its takhrij will come in the next note.
(2187). Reference / Source: The hadith of Ibn Abbas was recorded by Muslim (2188), not by al-Bukhari. The hadith that both al-Bukhari and Muslim agree on is actually the narration of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) (al-Bukhari: 5740, Muslim: 2187).
