It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a physician to him. He cut one of his veins and then cauterised it.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (Z) and (B) this name is corrupted into "Abu Ishaq".
Grading: Its chain is "qawi" (strong) on account of Abu Sufyan (Talhah bin Nafi'). Technical note / Defect ('illah): In it, Abu Mu'awiyah (Muhammad bin Khazim al-Darir) is alone among the students of al-A'mash in the words "fa-qata'a minhu 'irqan" (so he cut a vein of his), and these words are not in Ya'la bin Ubayd's narration from al-A'mash, as the author's way of presenting it suggests; al-Bayhaqi (9/ 432) recorded it via Ya'la but did not mention these words. Details of the narration: Some narrations make clear that Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) was struck by an arrow; it was not that the physician cut the vein. Important point: Abu Abd Allah al-Hafiz is Muhammad bin Ya'qub bin Yusuf al-Akhram. Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad 22/ (14379), Muslim (2207) (73) and Abu Dawud (3864) through various routes from Abu Mu'awiyah, with this chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The author (al-Hakim) including it in al-Mustadrak is an oversight on his part (since it is in Sahih Muslim). Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad at 22/ (14252) and 23/ (14989), by Muslim (2207) (73 and 74) and by Ibn Majah (3493) through various routes from al-A'mash. Note / Clarification: This narration will come at no. (8490) via Abu Ishaq al-Fazari, from al-A'mash. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A similar narration is reported by Abu al-Zubayr from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), but in it the incident concerns Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), not Ubayy bin Ka'b; it was recorded by Ahmad 22/ (1343), Muslim (2208) and others.
