It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) sought permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to have cupping done, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Abu Taybah to cup her. The narrator said: I think he also said that he (Abu Taybah) was her foster brother, or a boy who had not yet reached puberty.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Important point: Manuscript (Z) has "anna Rasul Allah", while (S) and (M) had a blank space there; we have written it correctly from "Ithaf al-Maharah" and the other sources.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Reference / Source: Ahmad (14775), Muslim (2206), Abu Dawud (4105), Ibn Majah (3480) and Ibn Hibban (5602) recorded it through various routes from al-Layth bin Sa'd. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hakim's including it as a supplement (istidrak) is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part, since it is in Sahih Muslim.
