Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7661

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If there is healing in anything of your remedies, it is in the incision of the cupper, or a drink of honey, or cauterisation with something hot (that hits the mark); and I do not like it when someone has himself cauterised."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "very weak" (da'if jiddan).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is agreement on the weakness of Asid bin Zayd al-Jammal. Although Muhammad bin As'ad al-Taghlibi corroborated him in narrating from Zuhayr bin Mu'awiyah (al-Bazzar 5758, al-Tabari 1/ 503 and 504, al-Tahawi 4/ 320, al-Uqayli 1515), Muhammad bin As'ad is himself weak. It is feared that Asid bin Zayd "stole" this hadith from Muhammad bin As'ad, since this hadith is better known through him, and Ibn Hibban accused Asid of stealing hadith in "al-Majruhin". And Allah knows best.
Reference / Source: As for the route of Asid bin Zayd, Abu Bakr al-Shafi'i recorded it in "al-Ghaylaniyyat" (410) by way of Isa bin Abd Allah al-Tayalisi, from him.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari recorded it at 1/ 502 by way of Layth bin Abi Sulaym, from Mujahid, from Ibn Umar, as marfu', with the wording: "If there is a cure in any of your remedies, it is in the sucking of the cupper (drawing blood)."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Layth bin Abi Sulaym is "sayyi' al-hifz" (of poor memory).
Important point: As for its text (matn), it is established as sahih from Companions other than Ibn Umar, as in the previous hadiths, and the closest to it in wording is the hadith of Jabir, which we cited from the "Sahihayn" at his earlier hadith number (7655).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Another supporting report is the hadith of Ibn Abbas, found in Sahih al-Bukhari (5681) and elsewhere.
