It is narrated from Abu al-Hakam al-Bajali (Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Nu'm); he said: I came to Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was having cupping done. He said to me: O Abu al-Hakam, you too should have cupping done. I said: I have never had cupping done. He said: Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him) informed me that Jibril (peace be upon him) told him: "Indeed, hijamah (cupping) is among the best means with which people treat themselves."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The name occurs thus in our handwritten manuscripts, but we have not found a biography of any narrator by this name; the one we have identified is "Nasr bin Ahmad al-Hattab" (with the letter ha'), whose biography is in "Tarikh Baghdad" 5/ 409. Al-Sam'ani also mentioned him in "al-Ansab" under the entry (al-Hattab), and he and al-Khatib al-Baghdadi stated that al-Hakim heard from him in Baghdad.
Important point: The word in the text has been established from manuscripts (S) and (M), while manuscript (Z) has "Khattab".
Important point: In manuscripts (Z) and (S) this name is corrupted to "Nu'aym".
Grading: Its chain has "lin" (weakness) in it, because of Muhammad bin Qays (al-Nakha'i). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Hibban said about him that he makes mistakes and contradicts others. Reference / Source: Ishaq bin Rahawayh recorded it in his "Musnad" (251) by way of Zakariyya bin Adi, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari recorded it in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" 1/ 213 and al-Tabari in "Tahdhib al-Athar" (Musnad Ibn Abbas) 1/ 507 and 508, through various routes from Ubayd Allah bin Amr, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Al-Tabari recorded it at 1/ 507 by way of Abu Abd al-Rahim Khalid bin Abi Yazid al-Harrani, from Zayd bin Abi Unaysah, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Ahmad (14/ 8513 and 15/ 9452), Abu Dawud (2102, 3857), Ibn Majah (3476) and Ibn Hibban (6078) recorded it by way of Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah, as "marfu'", with the wording: "If there is good in anything with which you treat yourselves, it is in cupping (hijamah)." Grading: Its chain is "hasan".
