Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7651

Amr bin Yahya bin Umarah bin Abi Hasan informed; he said: Maryam bint Iyas bin al-Bukayr (who was the daughter of a Companion of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) narrated to me; she narrates from one of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I think she was Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her and asked: "Do you have any dharirah (a fragrant powder)?" She said: Yes. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) called for it and placed it on a pimple that had appeared between two of the toes of his foot, then he made this supplication: 'Allahumma mutfi'a al-kabir, wa mukabbira al-saghir, atfi'ha 'anni' (O Allah, the One who extinguishes the big and makes the small grow big, extinguish it from me). And so the pimple disappeared.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is open to being graded hasan.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Amr bin Yahya bin Umarah is alone in narrating from Maryam bint Iyas; Ibn Hibban did not mention her in "al-Thiqat", and al-Dhahabi counted her among the unknown women in "al-Mizan". However, al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar declared this hadith of hers sahih in "Nata'ij al-Afkar" 4/ 157-158, and said that her being a Companion is disputed, while her father and paternal uncles are among the senior Companions, and her brother Muhammad saw the Prophet. In "al-Taqrib" she is called "maqbulah" (acceptable when corroborated).
