It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wore a shirt which was above the ankles, and its sleeves reached to the fingers.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is very weak because of Muslim (who is Ibn Kaysan al-Mula'i). Imam al-Dhahabi criticised it in "al-Talkhis" for this reason and said: "He is ruined (talif)." And in "al-Kashif" he said: "He is very weak (wahin)." Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is also disagreement over Muslim regarding its chain, as will follow. Details of the narration: Ali bin Salih bin Hayy narrated it in Ibn al-A'rabi's "al-Mu'jam" (184, 187), Abu al-Shaykh's "Akhlaq al-Nabi (peace and blessings be upon him)" (245) and al-Bayhaqi's "Shu'ab al-Iman" (5760, 5761); and his brother al-Hasan bin Salih bin Hayy narrated it in Ibn Sa'd's "al-Tabaqat" (1/ 395), Abd bin Humayd (639), Ibn Majah (3577), Ibn al-A'rabi (182, 2213), al-Tabarani's "al-Kabir" (11136), Abu al-Shaykh (250) and al-Bayhaqi (5759). Both of them (Ali and al-Hasan) narrate it from Muslim bin Kaysan al-Mula'i al-A'war, from Mujahid, from Ibn Abbas. Details of the narration: Khalid bin Abd Allah al-Wasiti narrated it in Musaddad's "al-Musnad" (al-Matalib al-Aliyah 2221), Ibn Sa'd (1/ 394), Abd bin Humayd (1232), Abu al-Shaykh (244) and al-Bayhaqi (5757); and Ali bin Asim narrated it in Ahmad bin Mani''s "al-Musnad" (al-Matalib 2221). Both of them (Khalid and Ali) narrate it from Muslim al-Mula'i al-A'war, from Anas bin Malik (thus making it a hadith of Anas). Its wording is: "The shirt of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was of cotton, short in length and with short sleeves." Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a report from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Bazzar (2946 - Kashf al-Astar), Abu al-Shaykh's "Akhlaq al-Nabi" (246) and al-Bayhaqi's "al-Shu'ab" (5758): "The shirt of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached his wrist." Its chain is "hasan". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And from Asma' bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) in Abu Dawud (4037), al-Tirmidhi (1765) and al-Nasa'i (9587); she said: "The end of the sleeve of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the wrist." Its chain is "hasan" in corroborations and supporting reports.
