Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7594

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that of all garments, the most beloved to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was the shirt (qamis).
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (2) In the manuscripts this name is distorted into "Hakim".

Note / Clarification: (3) In our manuscripts the words "from his father" were wrongly inserted between Ibn Buraydah and his mother, whereas the correct text, without them, appears in "al-Talkhis" and "Ithaf al-Maharah" (23592).

Grading: (1) Its chain is da'if (weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): We have not found a biography for the mother of Abd Allah bin Buraydah. Abu al-Muwajjih is "Muhammad bin Amr al-Fazari", Abd Allah is "Abd Allah bin Uthman al-Marwazi", and Abu Tumaylah is "Yahya bin Wadih al-Marwazi".
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad (44/ 6695), Abu Dawud (4026), Ibn Majah (3575) and al-Tirmidhi (1763) through various routes from Abu Tumaylah, with this chain.
Reference / Source: It was also recorded by al-Tirmidhi (1762) from Muhammad bin Humayd al-Razi, from Abu Tumaylah, with this chain, but without the words "from his mother".
Reference / Source: Likewise it was recorded by Abu Dawud (4025), al-Tirmidhi (1762, 1764) and al-Nasa'i (9589) through the route of al-Fadl bin Musa, and by al-Tirmidhi (1762) through the route of Zayd bin al-Hubab; both of them from Abd al-Mu'min bin Khalid, from Abd Allah bin Buraydah, from Umm Salamah. The mother of Abd Allah bin Buraydah is not mentioned in it.
Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is hasan gharib; we know it only from the hadith of Abd al-Mu'min bin Khalid, who is alone in narrating it, and he is from Marw.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Then he said: I heard Muhammad bin Isma'il (al-Bukhari) say: "The hadith of Abd Allah bin Buraydah from his mother from Umm Salamah is more sound, and it is Abu Tumaylah who mentions 'from his mother' in it."
