Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7573

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the king of Dhu Yazan gifted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a hullah (garment) that had been bought for thirty-three camels and a she-camel, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wore it once.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is da'if (weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Umarah bin Zadhan narrates munkar reports from Thabit from Anas, as Imam Ahmad said, and he is alone in narrating this hadith. What is preserved (mahfuz) from Anas is that the one who sent a suit as a gift to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was "Ukaydir of Dumah". As for the suit of "Dhu Yazan", what is correct about it is that Hakim bin Hizam bought it and then wished to give it as a gift to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he had not yet accepted Islam, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not accept it until he bought it from him.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad (21/ 13315) from Hasan bin Musa al-Ashyab, and by Abu Dawud (4034) from Amr bin Awn; both of them narrate it from Umarah bin Zadhan, with this chain.
