It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to have costly garments made for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions, for one thousand and for twelve hundred dirhams.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In the manuscripts this word reads "yastahil", while in "al-Talkhis" it appears in its correct form.
Grading: (2) Its narrators are trustworthy, but the narration of Yunus bin Yazid from Nafi' (the freed slave of Ibn Umar) has been criticised, and this report has also been narrated without mention of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (i.e. as mawquf), and that is more sound. Reference / Source: Abd al-Razzaq (1498) narrated from Abd Allah bin Umar al-Umari, from Nafi', that Ibn Umar or Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to forbid dyeing (cloth) with urine. He said: And Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to have suits (hullahs) woven for the Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so that a suit would reach a thousand dirhams or more. Technical note / Defect ('illah): (The narrator) al-Umari has some weakness. Reference / Source: He also narrated (1497) from Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani, from Nafi', that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to have suits made for the Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), a suit reaching from seven hundred to a thousand dirhams. Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is how it is in the printed edition, and perhaps (the narrator) "Ma'mar" has dropped out between Abd al-Razzaq and Ayyub; if his presence is established, then this chain is more sound than the hadith of Yunus. Reference / Source: He narrated (1499) from Ibn Jurayj, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, that he used to forbid dyeing with urine, and he used to have garments woven for the Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so that one of those suits would reach a thousand dirhams or more. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its narrators are trustworthy, but it contains the 'an'anah of Ibn Jurayj (his narrating with "from").
