Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7560

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) that people say (about me) that there is arrogance in me, yet I have ridden a donkey, I have held a sheep (or milked it), and I have worn a coarse wrap. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever does these things (that is, adopts such simplicity), there is no share of arrogance left in him."
This hadith is sahih al-isnad (its chain is authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Abi Dhi'b is "Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin al-Mughirah".
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (2001) recorded it from 'Ali bin 'Isa al-Baghdadi, from Shababah bin Sawwar, with this chain, and said: this hadith is hasan gharib.
Note / Clarification: "التِّيه" (with kasrah): it means arrogance. "الشملة": a sheet with which the body is covered and wrapped.
Note / Clarification: "اعتقال الشاة" means: the one milking the goat holds its leg between his shins and then milks it; in al-Tirmidhi's narration the words are "احتلبتُ الشاة" (I milked the goat), and the meaning of both is the same.
