أخبرنا مُكرَم بن أحمد القاضي ببغداد، حَدَّثَنَا محمد بن عيسى المَدائني، حَدَّثَنَا عمر بن يونس بن القاسم اليَمَامي، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرمة بن عمّار العِجلي، حدثني أبو زُمَيل، حدثني عبد الله بن الدُّؤَل، حدثني عبد الله بن عباس قال: لما خرجتِ الحَرُوريَّةُ اجتمعوا في دارٍ وهُم (1) ستةُ آلاف، أتيتُ عليًّا فقلتُ: يا أميرَ المؤمنين، أبرِدْ بالصلاة، لعلِّي آتي هؤلاء القومَ فأُكلِّمَهم، قال: إنِّي أخافُ عليك، قال: قلتُ: كلّا، قال: فخرجتُ إليهم ولبستُ أحسن ما يكون من حُلَلِ اليمن - قال أبو زُميل: وكان ابن عباس جميلًا جهيرًا - قال ابن عَبَّاس: فأتيتُهم وهم مجتمِعون في دارٍ وهم قائلون، فسلَّمتُ عليهم، قالوا: مرحبًا بك يا ابنَ عباس، فما هذه الحُلَّة؟ قلتُ: ما تَعِيبُون عليَّ، لقد رأيتُ على رسول الله ﷺ أحسنَ ما يكون من الحُلَل، وقرأتُ ﴿قُلْ مَنْ حَرَّمَ زِينَةَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي أَخْرَجَ لِعِبَادِهِ، وَالطَّيَّبَاتِ مِنَ الرِّزْقِ﴾ [الأعراف: 32]؛ ثم ذكر مناظرةَ ابن عباس المشهورة معهم (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Haruriyyah (the Khawarij) came out, they gathered in a house, and they were six thousand. I came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "O Commander of the Believers, delay the prayer until it is cooler, so that I may go to these people and speak with them." He said: "I fear for you." I said: "Not at all." (Abu Zumayl said:) Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was handsome and had a loud voice. Ibn Abbas said: I went to them wearing the finest of Yemeni garments. I greeted them with salam, and they said: "Welcome to you, O Ibn Abbas! What is this garment?" I said: "What fault do you find with me? I have seen the finest garments on the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." And I recited the verse: "Say: Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has brought forth for His servants, and the good things of provision?" [Surah al-A'raf: 32] Then he mentioned his famous debate with them.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Note / Clarification: (1) Manuscripts (S) and (M) have the words: "في دارهم" (in their house).
(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد ضعيف من أجل محمد بن عيسى المدائني، وقد خالف فيه الثقات، فزاد بين أبي زميل - وهو سماك بن الوليد الحنفي - وابنِ عباس عبدَ الله بنَ الدؤل، وابن الدؤل هذا لم نعرفه.
Grading: (2) This hadith is sahih, but this chain is da'if (weak) because of Muhammad bin 'Isa al-Mada'ini.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In it he contradicted the trustworthy narrators and added "Abd Allah bin al-Du'al" between Abu Zumayl (Simak bin al-Walid al-Hanafi) and Ibn 'Abbas, and we do not know this Ibn al-Du'al.
وسلف على الصواب بدون ذكر ابن الدؤل برقم (2688) من طريق أبي أمية محمد بن إبراهيم الطرسوسي عن عمر بن يونس اليمامي.
Note / Clarification: This narration has passed with the correct chain, without mention of Ibn al-Du'al, at number (2688), via Abu Umayyah Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Tarsusi, who narrates from 'Umar bin Yunus al-Yamami.
