أخبرنا أحمد بن سليمان المَوصِليّ، حدّثنا علي بن حرب، حدّثنا سفيان، عن سالم أبي النَّضر، عن زُرْعة بن مسلم بن جَرْهَد، عن جدِّه جَرهَد: أنَّ النبيّ ﷺ أبصرَه وقد انكشفَ فَخِذُه في المسجد، وعليه بُردةٌ، فقال: "إِنَّ الفَخِذَ من العَوْرة" (3).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه. وشاهدُه حديث محمد بن جَحْش:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jarhad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him in the mosque with his thigh uncovered, while he was wearing a cloak, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the thigh is part of the awrah (the area that must be covered)."
This hadith is sahih al-isnad (its chain is authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. Its supporting witness is the narration of Muhammad bin Jahsh.

(3) حسن لغيره، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لاضطرابه كما أوضحناه في "مسند أحمد" (15926)، وانظر "علل" الدارقطني (3374).
Grading: (3) It is "hasan li-ghayrihi" (sound due to other reports), but this chain is da'if (weak) because of its idtirab (inconsistency), as we made clear in "Musnad Ahmad" (15926).

وأخرجه الترمذيّ (2795) عن ابن أبي عمر، عن سفيان بن عيينة بهذا الإسناد. وقال: حديث حسن، ما أرى إسناده بمتصل.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (2795) recorded it from Ibn Abi 'Umar, from Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah, with this chain, and (al-Tirmidhi) said: This hadith is hasan, but I do not consider its chain connected.
وأخرجه أحمد (25/ 15933)، وابن حبان (1710) من طريق سفيان الثَّوريّ، وأحمد (15932) من طريق ابن أبي الزناد، كلاهما عن أبي الزناد، عن زرعة بن عبد الرحمن بن جرهد، عن جده جرهد فسمّاه زرعة بن عبد الرحمن.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (25/ 15933) and Ibn Hibban (1710) recorded it via Sufyan al-Thawri, and Ahmad (15932) via Ibn Abi al-Zinad; both of them from Abu al-Zinad, from Zur'ah bin Abd al-Rahman bin Jarhad, from his grandfather Jarhad.
Details of the narration: They named the narrator "Zur'ah bin Abd al-Rahman".
وأخرجه أحمد (15926) عن عبد الرحمن بن مهديّ، عن مالك، عن أبي النَّضر، عن زرعة بن عبد الرحمن بن جرهد، عن أبيه عن جده. فسمّاه زرعة بن عبد الرحمن، وزاد في الإسناد بين زرعة وجده والدَه عبد الرحمن.

Details of the narration: Here he named him "Zur'ah bin Abd al-Rahman" and added in the chain, between Zur'ah and his grandfather, his father "Abd al-Rahman".
وأخرجه أحمد (15931) عن إسحاق بن عيسى، عن مالك، عن أبي النَّضر، عن زرعة بن جرهد، عن أبيه وكان من أصحاب الصُّفّة، فذكره.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (15931) narrated it from Ishaq bin 'Isa, from Malik, from Abu al-Nadr, from Zur'ah bin Jarhad, from his father (who was one of the People of the Suffah), and then mentioned the hadith.
وأخرجه أبو داود (4014) عن عبد الله بن مسلمة القعنبيّ، عن مالك، عن أبي النَّضر، عن زرعة ابن عبد الرحمن بن جرهد، عن أبيه، قال: كان جرهد من أصحاب الصفة، فذكره.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (4014) recorded it from Abd Allah bin Maslamah al-Qa'nabi, from Malik, from Abu al-Nadr, from Zur'ah bin Abd al-Rahman bin Jarhad, from his father, who said: Jarhad was one of the People of the Suffah; and then mentioned the hadith.
وأخرجه أحمد (15929) من طريق معمر، عن أبي الزناد، عن ابن جرهد، عن أبيه قال: مرَّ بي رسول الله ﷺ، فذكره.
Reference / Source: And Ahmad (15929) narrated it via Ma'mar, from Abu al-Zinad, from Ibn Jarhad, from his father, who said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me; and then mentioned the hadith.
وأخرجه أحمد (15928) عن سفيان بن عيينة، عن أبي الزناد، قال: أخبرني آل جرهد عن جرهد، قال: الفخذ عورة. موقوف.
Reference / Source: And Ahmad (15928) narrated it from Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah, from Abu al-Zinad, who said: The family of Jarhad told me from Jarhad that he said: "The thigh is (part of the) 'awrah."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This narration is mawquf (a statement of the Companion).
وأخرجه أحمد (15930) من طريق زهير بن محمد، والترمذيّ (2797) من طريق الحسن بن صالح، كلاهما عن عبد الله بن محمد بن عَقيل، عن عبد الله بن جرهد، عن أبيه جرهد، فذكره.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (15930) recorded it via Zuhayr bin Muhammad, and al-Tirmidhi (2797) via al-Hasan bin Salih; both of them from Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin 'Aqil, from Abd Allah bin Jarhad, from his father Jarhad; and then mentioned the hadith.
فسماه عبد الله بن جرهد. وقال الترمذيّ: حسن غريب من هذا الوجه.
Details of the narration: They named the narrator "Abd Allah bin Jarhad".
Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi said: this hadith is hasan gharib from this route.
