It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The awrah (area to be covered) of a man before another man is like that of a woman before another woman, and the awrah of a woman before another woman is like that of a woman before a non-mahram man."
This hadith is sahih al-isnad (its chain is authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (2) In the manuscripts this name has been distorted into "al-Zuhri".
Note / Clarification: (3) In manuscripts (S) and (M) this word has been distorted into "الرجل" (the man).
Note / Clarification: (1) This is how the text occurs in our manuscripts, and it is inverted (maqlub), whereas with those who recorded it the text reads: "like the 'awrah of a man for a woman", and that is the usual, correct form (al-jaddah).
Grading: (2) Its chain is da'if (weak). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibrahim bin 'Ali (who is Ibn al-Hasan bin 'Ali) al-Rafi'i is weak, and on account of him al-Dhahabi declared it defective in his "Talkhis". As for 'Ali bin 'Umar: he is Ibn 'Ali bin al-Husayn bin 'Ali bin Abi Talib, attributed to his higher ancestor, and he is one of those whose solitary narration (tafarrud) is not accepted, since no reliable critic declared him trustworthy. Also, his grandfather here - who is 'Ali bin al-Husayn (Zayn al-'Abidin) - narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only in mursal form. Reference / Source: Al-Khara'iti recorded it in "Masawi' al-Akhlaq" (767) from Abd Allah bin Ahmad al-Dawraqi, from Ibrahim al-Zubayri, with this chain. Reference / Source: And al-Khara'iti (767) recorded it from Nasr bin Dawud, and al-Daylami in "al-Ghara'ib al-Multaqatah" (2098) via Abu Thabit Muhammad bin 'Ubayd Allah bin Muhammad bin Zayd; both of them narrate it from Ibrahim bin 'Umar al-Rafi'i.
