It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Know that woman was created from a rib, and if you try to straighten her completely, you will break her. So treat her with gentleness and accommodation, and you will be able to live with her (happily)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this three times.
This hadith is sahih al-isnad (its chain is authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. Its supporting witness is the hadith of Ibn Ajlan from his father from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Woman was created from a crooked rib. If you set about straightening her, you will break her, and if you leave her (as she is), you will be able to benefit from her despite her crookedness." This chain is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but they did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is sahih. Note / Clarification: Abu 'Asim is al-Dahhak bin Makhlad al-Nabil, 'Awf is Ibn Abi Jamilah, and Abu Raja' is 'Imran bin Milhan al-'Utaridi. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it at (33/ 20093) from Muhammad bin Ja'far, and Ibn Hibban (4178) via Ja'far bin Sulayman, both of them from 'Awf bin Abi Jamilah, with this chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, in Ahmad's narration Abu Raja' appears unnamed (mubham). Important point: His words: "من ضلَع أعوج" (from a crooked rib): here the woman is likened to the rib in crookedness. The hadith aims at being gentle with women and winning their hearts by pardoning them and being patient with them, and (at teaching) that whoever tries to straighten them will lose the benefit of them; so enjoying their company is only complete through being patient with them.
Note / Clarification: (2) The text between the square brackets was not in the manuscripts; we have supplied it from the takhrij sources. The Indian edition has "تعش" (you will live) in place of "تستمتع" (you will enjoy).
Reference / Source: (3) Imam Ahmad narrated it with a connected chain at 15/ (9524) from Yahya bin Sa'id, and Ibn Hibban (4180) via Abd Allah bin Raja', both of them from Muhammad bin 'Ajlan, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). Grading: Its chain is jayyid (good).
