Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7520

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with her two children. He (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her three dates. The woman gave each of the two children one date. Then one of the children began to cry, so out of compassion she (split the third date in two and) gave each of them half. At this the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Mothers are most merciful to their children. Were it not for the (improper) treatment they give their husbands, those of them who pray would certainly enter Paradise."
