It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: A man passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and another man (who was present) said: "I love him for the pleasure of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have you told him?" He said: "No." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell him." The narrator says: Then I met that man and told him, and he said: "May the One for whose sake you loved me love you."
Imam al-Hakim said that the chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim did not record it. And its supporting narration (shahid) is this hadith of Sayyiduna al-Miqdam bin Ma'dikarib (may Allah be pleased with him):

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) This hadith is sahih, and this chain is hasan because of al-Mubarak bin Fadalah; he explicitly stated that he heard it directly (tahdith) in Imam Ahmad's version, and he has also been corroborated. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Imam Ahmad in 19/ (12514) and 20/ (12590), and Abu Dawud (5125), via various routes from al-Mubarak bin Fadalah, with this same chain. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Imam Ahmad in 19/ (12430), al-Nasa'i (9939) and Ibn Hibban (571) via the route of al-Husayn bin Waqid, and by Ahmad in 21/ (13535) via the route of Hammad bin Salamah; both of them narrate it from Thabit with this same chain. (12430). Note / Clarification: And see the disagreement that occurred over Hammad bin Salamah in this narration in "al-Musnad" (12430). (2639). Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ma'mar in his "Jami'" (20319) from al-Ash'ath bin 'Abdullah al-Huddani, from Anas, and he added at the end: "You will be with those whom you love, and you will have what you hoped for (of reward)." Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ma'mar narrated it like this, whereas his narration from the Iraqis contains errors. Hafs bin Ghiyath contradicted him in al-Tirmidhi (2386), narrating it from al-Ash'ath, from al-Hasan al-Basri, from Anas, with a different wording. The basis of this hadith is in the "Two Sahihs"; see al-Bukhari (3688) and Muslim (2639).
