حدّثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، حدّثنا إبراهيم بن عبد الله، حدّثنا أبو عاصم، أخبرنا جعفر بن يحيى بن ثَوْبان، عن عمِّه عُمَارة بن ثَوْبان، عن أبي الطُّفيل قال: رأيتُ رسول الله ﷺ بالجِعْرانة، فجاءته امْرأةٌ وأنا يومئذٍ غلامٌ، فلما دَنَتْ من النبيّ ﷺ بَسَطَ لها رِداءَه، فجلست عليه، فقلت: مَن هذه؟ فقالوا: هذه أُمُّه التي أرضَعَتْه (3).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at al-Ji'ranah. A woman came to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and at that time I was a boy. When she drew near to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) spread out his cloak for her and she sat on it. I asked: "Who is she?" The people said: "She is his (peace and blessings be upon him) mother who nursed him (peace and blessings be upon him)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(3) حسن لغيره، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لجهالة جعفر بن يحيى بن ثوبان وعمّه عمارة، وتقدم الكلام عليه فيما سلف برقم (6740). إبراهيم بن عبد الله: هو ابن يزيد السعديّ، وأبو عاصم: هو الضحاك بن مخلد النبيل، وأبو الطفيل: هو عامر بن واثلة.
Grading: This narration is "hasan li-ghayrihi", but this chain is da'if (weak) because Ja'far bin Yahya bin Thawban and his paternal uncle 'Umarah are majhul (unknown); discussion of this has already appeared at number (6740).
Note / Clarification: In the chain, Ibrahim bin 'Abdullah is "Ibn Yazid al-Sa'di", Abu 'Asim is "al-Dahhak bin Makhlad al-Nabil", and Abu al-Tufayl is "'Amir bin Wathilah".
