Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7446

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Be kind to your fathers, and your children will be kind to you; and remain chaste (regarding other women), and your women will remain chaste; and whoever is offered an apology and does not accept it will not come to me at the Pond."

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is very weak because of 'Ali bin Qutaybah al-Rifa'i, and for this reason Imam al-Dhahabi declared it defective in "al-Talkhis".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): "Abu al-Zubayr" in the chain is "Muhammad bin Muslim bin Tadrus".
Reference / Source: Al-'Uqayli recorded it in "al-Du'afa'" (1208), al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (1029), Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" (5/ 207), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (6/ 335), Ibn 'Abd al-Barr in "al-Tamhid" (2/ 308-309), al-Khatib in "Tarikh Baghdad" (7/ 312) and Qiwam al-Sunnah in "al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib" (449), through various routes from 'Ali bin Qutaybah al-Rifa'i, with this chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-'Uqayli said: It has no basis in the hadith of Malik, nor from any route that is established. Ibn 'Adi said: It is baseless (batil). Abu Nu'aym said: It is "gharib" as the hadith of Malik from Abu al-Zubayr; 'Ali bin Qutaybah is alone in narrating it. Ibn 'Abd al-Barr said: It is gharib as the hadith of Malik, and in my view it has no basis in the hadith of Malik.
Reference / Source: Al-Khatib (7/ 312) recorded it by way of Muhammad bin Yunus, from Muhammad bin Khalid bin 'Athmah, from Malik bin Anas.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): After it he said: An error was made in it over Muhammad bin Yunus al-Kudaymi, because he actually narrated it from 'Ali bin Qutaybah al-Rifa'i from Malik, and neither he nor anyone else had it from Ibn 'Athmah; and what is preserved (mahfuz) is that 'Ali bin Qutaybah is alone in narrating it.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Awsat" (1002) from Ahmad bin Dawud al-Makki, from 'Ali, from Malik, from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This "'Ali" is the same "Ibn Qutaybah", as Ibn 'Arraq stated explicitly in "Tanzih al-Shari'ah" (2/ 227), so the hadith comes back to him ('Ali bin Qutaybah).
