Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this word has been corrupted into "al-Sarraf".
Grading: Its chain is weak because of Suwayd Abu Hatim - who is Ibn Ibrahim al-Jahdari - and there is also disagreement over it from him (in the chain), as will be explained. Besides this, Yahya bin Hakim has jahalah (unknown status), and Ishaq al-Sawwaf is layyin (weak).
Reference / Source: Abu al-Fath al-Azdi recorded it in "Ahadith Muntaqah fi al-Ghara'ib" (after number 8) and Ibn al-Shajari in "al-Amali" (2/ 118) through two routes from Ishaq bin Ibrahim al-Sawwaf, from 'Umar bin al-Khattab al-Sijistani, from Suwayd bin Ibrahim Abu Hatim, from al-Hasan al-Basri, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): After it al-Azdi said: He did not mention Qatadah (in this chain). We say: 'Umar bin al-Khattab al-Sijistani is not known for narrating from Suwayd; rather, the one known for narrating from him is 'Umar bin al-Khattab al-Rasibi, who is mentioned next.
Reference / Source: Abu al-Fath al-Azdi recorded it (8) by way of al-Nadr bin Ibrahim, and Abu Nu'aym in "Tarikh Asbahan" (2/ 48) by way of 'Umar bin al-Khattab al-Rasibi; both of them from Suwayd Abu Hatim, from Qatadah, from al-Hasan, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him).
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym also recorded it in "al-Tarikh" (2/ 285) by way of al-Walid bin Muslim, from Sadaqah bin Yazid, from al-'Ala' bin 'Abd al-Rahman, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), as marfu'.
Details of the narration: Its wording is: "'Iffu ta'iffa nisa'ukum" (Be chaste, and your women will be chaste).
Grading: Its chain can possibly be graded hasan, since al-Walid bin Muslim explicitly stated that he heard it (tahdith), and his shaykh Sadaqah bin Yazid was declared layyin (weak) by most, while more than one declared him trustworthy. See (for more detail) what comes after it.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also a narration from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in al-Tabarani's "al-Awsat" (6295) and Abu al-Shaykh's "al-Fawa'id" (26), but its chain is talif (ruined, extremely weak); it contains Khalid bin Yazid al-'Umari, who was accused of lying.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And from Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) in Ibn al-Shajari (2/ 118) and Ibn 'Asakir's "al-Mu'jam" (808); its chain is also talif; it contains Abu Hudbah Ibrahim bin Hudbah, who was accused of lying.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And from 'Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) in Ibn 'Adi's "al-Kamil" (5/ 244), in whose chain Ishaq bin Muhammad al-Farwi is weak; and also in Ibn al-Shajari (2/ 118), whose chain is "muzlim" (dark), containing Muhammad bin 'Abdullah al-Shaybani, who was accused of lying, and it also contains narrators whose status we could not ascertain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in al-Khara'iti's "I'tilal al-Qulub" (107) and Ibn 'Adi (1/ 330); its chain is talif; it contains Ishaq bin Najih al-Malati, who was accused of lying.
Note / Clarification: The word "mutanassilan" means: disowning his sin and apologising.
