أخبرنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله الصَّفّار، حدثنا أحمد بن مِهران حدثنا عبيد الله بن موسى، حدثنا إسرائيل، عن سماك بن حرب، عن عِكْرمة، عن ابن عبّاس قال: لما نزلَ تحريم الخمر قالوا يا رسولَ الله، كيف إخوانُنا الذين ماتوا وهم يشربونها؟ قال: فنزلَتْ: ﴿لَيْسَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ جُنَاحٌ فِيمَا طَعِمُوا﴾ الآية [المائدة: 93] (1). هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: When the command prohibiting wine was revealed, the people said: "O Messenger of Allah! What about our brothers who died while they used to drink it?" The narrator says: Then this verse was revealed: "There is no sin upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they ate (before the command came)." [Surah al-Ma'idah: 93]
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل سماك بن حرب. إسرائيل: هو ابن يونس السبيعي. Grading: This is "sahih li-ghayrihi", and this chain is "hasan" on account of Simak bin Harb. Note / Clarification: Isra'il is Isra'il bin Yunus al-Sabi'i. وأخرجه أحمد 3/ (2088) و 4/ (2452) و (2691) و (2774)، والترمذي (3052) من طرق عن إسرائيل بن يونس، بهذا الإسناد. وقال الترمذي: حديث حسن صحيح. Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it in 3/ (2088) and 4/ (2452, 2691, 2774), and al-Tirmidhi in (3052), through various routes from Isra'il bin Yunus, with this same chain. Grading: Al-Tirmidhi called it a "hasan sahih hadith". وهو بعض الحديث السالف عند المصنف برقم (7405). Important point: This is part of the earlier hadith with the author, no. (7405). ويشهد له حديث أنس عند البخاري (2464)، ومسلم (1980). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In support of this narration there is the hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated by al-Bukhari in (2464) and Muslim in (1980).
