حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، حدثنا محمد بن عبد الوهاب العَبْدي، حدثنا خلف بن الوليد الجوهري، حدثنا هُشيم، عن عبد الحميد بن صَيْفي بن صهيب، عن أبيه، عن جَدِّه، أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال: "ألا إِنَّ سيد الأشربةِ في الدنيا والآخرة الماءُ" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

Abd al-Hamid bin Sayfi bin Suhayb narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather, Sayyiduna Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Behold! The master of all drinks in this world and the Hereafter is water."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(2) إسناده ضعيف، هشيم - وهو ابن بشير - مدلس وقد عنعن، وعبد الحميد بن صيفي - ويقال: ابن زياد بن صيفي - روى عنه جمع وذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات"، وكذلك صيفي بن صهيب روى عنه جمع وذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات"، ونقل العقيلي في ترجمة عبد الحميد بن زياد بن صيفي بن صهيب من "الضعفاء" عن البخاري قال: لا يُعرف سماع بعضهم من بعض.
Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hushaym bin Bashir is a "mudallis" and has narrated here with "'an" (without stating that he heard it). A group narrated from 'Abd al-Hamid bin Sayfi (who is also called Ibn Ziyad bin Sayfi), and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat"; likewise a group narrated from Sayfi bin Suhayb, and Ibn Hibban listed him in "al-Thiqat". However, al-'Uqayli, in the biography of 'Abd al-Hamid in "al-Du'afa'", quoted al-Bukhari as saying: "It is not known that these narrators heard from one another."
وأخرجه الرافعي في "أخبار قزوين" 2/ 407 من طريق قيس الأشجعي، عن عبد الحميد بن صيفي بهذا الإسناد. وفي إسناده من لم نعرفه.
Reference / Source: Al-Rafi'i narrated it in "Akhbar Qazwin" 2/ 407 through the route of Qays al-Ashja'i, from 'Abd al-Hamid bin Sayfi, with this same chain; but in its chain there are narrators whom we do not know.
