Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7382

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever spends the night while there is grease on his hand, and then some accident or harm befalls him, let him blame no one but himself."
All of these chains of narration are sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record them.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this name has been corrupted into "Habib".

Grading: This hadith is sahih and its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy); however, Abu Hammam Muhammad bin Muhabbab, even though he is thiqah,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): was contradicted by a group of narrators (as passed in the previous narration); they narrated it as "Suhayl, from his father Abu Salih" and did not mention "al-A'mash" in between. Al-Daraqutni did not give any final ruling on this matter.
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (9227) and Abu al-Shaykh in "Dhikr al-Aqran" (7) narrated it through the route of Ahmad bin Muhammad bin al-Mu'alla, from Abu Hammam, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ibn al-A'rabi narrated it in his "Mu'jam" (221, 273) from Muhammad bin Salih al-Antaki; and Tammam in "al-Fawa'id" (238), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (7/ 144) and al-Bayhaqi in "al-Shu'ab" (5431/A) through the route of Muhammad bin Ghalib; both of them transmit it through the route of Abu Hammam, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from Suhayl bin Abi Salih.
Important point: Abu Nu'aym says that it is "gharib" as a narration of Sufyan al-Thawri, and Abu Hammam is alone in narrating it.
Reference / Source: Ibn al-A'rabi narrated it in (233) through the route of Muhammad bin Salih, from Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah, from Suhayl bin Abi Salih.
