It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever spends the night while there is grease on his hand, and some harm befalls him (in his sleep, through some harmful creature), let him blame only himself."
It turned out that Suhayl did not hear it from his father; he only heard it from al-A'mash.

Grading: This hadith is sahih and its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy), but Suhayl bin Abi Salih inserted "al-A'mash" as a link between himself and his father, as will come in the next narration. Al-Daraqutni mentioned it in "al-'Ilal" (1972) but did not give any final ruling on it. Reference / Source: Ahmad (13/ 7569 and 16/ 10940), Abu Dawud (3852), Ibn Majah (3297) and Ibn Hibban (5521) narrated it through various routes from Suhayl bin Abi Salih, with this same chain.
