It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you come to a shepherd, call him three times; if he answers, well and good, otherwise drink (the milk) but do not waste it. And when you come to the wall of a garden, call out to the owner of the garden three times; if he answers, that is better, otherwise eat from it but do not cause damage."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: The hadith is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although al-Jurayri (who is Sa'id bin Iyas) suffered from ikhtilat (deterioration of memory) at the end of his life, and Yazid bin Harun heard from him after his ikhtilat, Hammad bin Salamah, who heard from him before his ikhtilat, corroborated him; moreover, there are other corroborating chains for it as well. Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad 17/(11159), Ibn Majah (2300) and Ibn Hibban (5281) through the route of Yazid bin Harun, with this same chain. Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad 17/(11045) through the route of Hammad bin Salamah and 18/(11812) through the route of 'Ali bin 'Asim; both of them narrate from Sa'id al-Jurayri. Reference / Source: It was recorded similarly by Imam Ahmad 18/(11419) through the route of Sharik bin 'Abd Allah al-Nakha'i, via 'Abd Allah bin 'Asim, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri. Grading: The narration of Sharik bin 'Abd Allah is considered (acceptable) in corroborating chains and supporting reports.
