Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7329

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever part is cut off from the body of a living animal is carrion."

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts this word has been corrupted into "Musa".

Grading: This hadith is "hasan" on account of its routes.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain contains Hisham bin Sa'd, who is not very strong, and he has contradicted the other narrators (as in the previous two hadiths), in that when narrating from Zayd bin Aslam he made it a hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ibn Majah (2316), al-Bazzar (as in "Nasb al-Rayah" 4/317) and al-Daraqutni (4793) through the route of Ma'n bin 'Isa, with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Bazzar said that we know of no other route for it from Ibn 'Umar besides this one, even though al-Tabarani (7932) and Ibn 'Adi recorded it through the route of 'Asim bin 'Umar al-'Umari. 'Asim bin 'Umar is "da'if" (weak), and Imam Abu Hatim declared it "munkar".
