Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This narration is "hasan" by the combination of its routes, although individually its chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Only two people narrated from the narrator 'Abd al-Rahman bin Mas'ud al-'Abdi and no declaration of his trustworthiness is transmitted from anyone, so he is "majhul al-hal" (of unknown condition); however, he has been corroborated. Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi gave the biography of the other narrator, al-Husayn bin al-Rammas, in his "Tarikh" 8/578 and transmitted from Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal that he said: "I see no harm in him" (i.e. he is acceptable).
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (9155) through the route of Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" 2/386, al-Khara'iti in "Makarim al-Akhlaq" (298), al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (6187), al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (9156) and al-Khatib al-Baghdadi in "Tarikh Baghdad" 8/578 through the route of al-Husayn bin Muhammad al-Marrudhi.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Abu Nu'aym in "Tarikh Asbahan" 1/56, al-Bayhaqi (9154) and al-Khatib al-Baghdadi 11/463 through the route of Yunus bin Muhammad al-Mu'addib, from al-Husayn bin al-Rammas.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In this narration Sulayman bin Rabah and Zakariyya bin Ishaq are mentioned alongside 'Abd al-Rahman bin Mas'ud as support (maqrun).
Note / Clarification: See also the narration before it.

Note / Clarification: Our manuscripts have "wa al-ta'ah", but we have recorded the correct word according to the other source works.

Note / Clarification: It is like this in our manuscripts, whereas in the "Musnad" of Ahmad and the "Sunan" of al-Tirmidhi the word "naqr" (pecking) appears in its place.
