Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is extremely weak (talif).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator "Fahd", whose name is Zayd bin 'Abd 'Awf, is "matruk" (abandoned), and Imam Ibn al-Madini accused him (of lying). Fadl bin Abi al-Fadl al-Azdi I could not identify (he is unknown). If the narrator 'Umar bin Musa is "al-Wajihi", then he too is "matruk and accused", as appears from the approach of Imam al-Mundhiri in "al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib" and Imam al-Dhahabi in his "Talkhis". And if this narrator is "'Ali bin Musa" (as in the narration of al-Tabarani, who stated explicitly that he was alone in it), then we could not identify him either.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" 22/(351) and "al-Mu'jam al-Awsat" (3746) via 'Ali bin 'Abd al-'Aziz from Fahd bin 'Awf, with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In al-Tabarani's version the words are "'Ali bin Musa" in place of "'Umar bin Musa", and he said that no one narrated it from 'Ali bin al-Aqmar except 'Ali bin Musa, and that Fahd bin 'Awf is alone in narrating it from him.
Reference / Source: The author (al-Hakim) recorded it later at number (8062), and Tammam bin Muhammad in "al-Fawa'id" (643), through the route of Abu Rabi'ah Fahd bin 'Awf, from 'Umar bin al-Fadl, from Raqabah bin Masqalah, from 'Ali bin al-Aqmar.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is variation in its chain, and it contains the same narrator mentioned above, Fahd bin 'Awf.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" 7/256 and al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (5255) through the route of Muhammad bin Khalid (who is also called Khulayd) al-Hanafi, from 'Abd al-Wahid bin Ziyad, from Mis'ar, from 'Ali bin al-Aqmar, via 'Awn bin Abi Juhayfah, from his father.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In this chain "'Awn bin Abi Juhayfah" has been added between 'Ali bin al-Aqmar and Abu Juhayfah, while there is agreement that Muhammad al-Hanafi is weak.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam al-Bazzar (4236) through the route of 'Umar bin Musa, and by Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "Kitab al-Ju'" (19), al-Tabarani in the Musnad of 'Umar in "Tahdhib al-Athar" 2/716, al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (8929), Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" 7/74 and al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (5256) through the route of al-Walid bin 'Amr bin Saj.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Both of these narrate from 'Awn bin Abi Juhayfah, and he from his father Abu Juhayfah. 'Umar bin Musa has already been discussed (he is accused), and al-Walid bin 'Amr is da'if (weak).
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam al-Bukhari in the Kitab al-Kuna of his "Tarikh" (269), Imam al-Bazzar (4237) and al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" 22/(327) through the route of 'Abd al-Salam bin Harb, from Abu Raja' Muhriz bin 'Abd Allah al-Jazari, from Abu Juhayfah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Bukhari did not state the name or lineage of this Abu Raja', but his name is found in the narration of Abu Ghassan al-Nahdi. Thus Imam al-Bayhaqi (5254) recorded it through the route of Abu Ghassan Malik al-Nahdi, from 'Abd al-Salam, from Abu Raja' (whose name he gave as Muhriz), from someone who had heard it from Abu Juhayfah. This makes clear that Muhriz (who is Ibn 'Abd Allah al-Jazari) did not hear it directly from Abu Juhayfah, so this chain is "munqati'" (broken). This narration is also in Ibn Abi al-Dunya's "Kitab al-Ju'" (4), but a narrator has dropped out (saqt) of its chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also a narration from Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him), which has already passed at number (6690), but its chain is "extremely weak".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration is also found from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) with Ibn Majah (3350) and al-Tirmidhi (2478), but its chain too is "extremely weak". For a detailed discussion of it and its supporting reports, see our edition of "Sunan Ibn Majah".
