Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7304

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "None of you should wipe his hand with a napkin until he has licked it, for a person does not know in which part of his food blessing has been placed for him. And indeed, Satan lies in wait for a person in everything, even at the time of his eating."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but they did not record it in this form.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Because of Abu Qilabah, whose full name is Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad al-Raqashi, this chain is strong (qawi).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: He has been corroborated; here Abu Asim refers to al-Dahhak bin Makhlad.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Hibban (5253) through the route of Amr bin Ali from Abu Asim with this same chain, at greater length than al-Hakim's narration. Al-Nasa'i (6736) transmitted it through the route of Hajjaj bin Muhammad from Ibn Jurayj.
Reference / Source: It was narrated in full and in portions by Ahmad in the "Musnad" (22/14221, 14629, 15237), and by Muslim (2033/133, 134), Ibn Majah (3270) and al-Nasa'i (6746) through various routes from Abu al-Zubayr.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (14390) and Muslim (2033/135) through the route of Abu Sufyan, and by Muslim through the route of Abu Salih; both of them narrated it from Jabir.
Note / Clarification: Since it is in Muslim, al-Hakim's istidrak of it is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part.
