(1). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has set certain limits, so do not transgress them; He has laid down certain obligations for you, so do not neglect them; He has made certain things unlawful, so do not violate their sanctity; and your Lord has remained silent about certain things, not out of forgetfulness, but purely as a mercy for you, so accept them (as a blessing) and do not (needlessly) search into them."

Grading: This hadith may possibly be "hasan li-ghayrihi" on the basis of supporting reports, but this particular chain is weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): It is not established that Makhul al-Shami heard from Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani; moreover, there is disagreement over Dawud bin Abi Hind as to whether it is marfu' or mawquf, as al-Daraqutni said in "al-'Ilal" (1170). Note / Clarification: Al-Nawawi declared it hasan in his books "al-Adhkar", "al-Arba'in" and "Riyad al-Salihin". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Qa'nabi refers to Abdullah bin Maslamah bin Qa'nab. Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bayhaqi (10/12-13) via Abu Abdullah al-Hakim with this same chain. Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (22/589 and 677) and "Musnad al-Shamiyyin" (3492), Ibn al-Muqri' in "al-Mu'jam" (471), al-Daraqutni in "al-Sunan" (4396), Ibn Battah in "al-Ibanah al-Kubra" (1/407), Ibn Mandah in "Majalis min Amalihi" (9), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (9/17), Ibn Abd al-Barr in "Jami' Bayan al-'Ilm" (2012) and Ibn Asakir in his "Mu'jam" (1232) through various routes from Dawud bin Abi Hind. Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the narration of Ibn Asakir there are the words, with doubt, "arahu" (I think it is from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)). Ibn Asakir called it "gharib" and made clear that Makhul did not hear from Abu Tha'labah. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Jarir al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" (7/85) through the route of Abu Mu'awiyah al-Darir, by Abu Uthman al-Bahiri al-Naysaburi in "al-Tasi' min Fawa'idihi" (36) through the route of Yazid bin Harun, and by al-Bayhaqi (10/12) through the route of Hafs bin Ghiyath. These three narrate it from Dawud bin Abi Hind, from Makhul, from Abu Tha'labah as "mawquf". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Daraqutni says that closer to the correct view is that it is "marfu'", and this is better known. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Mandah in "Majalis min Amalihi" (right after number 9) through the route of Muhammad bin Ajlan, from Sa'id bin Ibrahim, from Makhul, as "marfu'". (3459). Important point: See the hadith of Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him), number (3459).
