It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that a rabbit ran off in al-Baqi', and I was among those who ran after it to catch it. I got ahead of everyone and caught it. Then I brought it to Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he ordered it to be slaughtered and roasted. Then he gave me the hindquarter (thigh) of the rabbit and sent me with it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is this?" I said: This is the thigh of a rabbit which Abu Talhah has sent for you. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted it.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: The hadith is sahih, but this particular chain is weak because of the weakness of Ali bin Asim al-Wasiti. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (21/13430) through the route of Ali bin Asim with this same chain. Reference / Source: Something similar was narrated by Ahmad (19/12182), al-Bukhari (2572, 5489), Muslim (1953), Abu Dawud (3791), Ibn Majah (3243), al-Tirmidhi (1789) and al-Nasa'i (4805) through the route of Hisham bin Zayd bin Anas, from his grandfather Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). Important point: The literal meaning of the word "intafajat" is to rouse or stir up; it is said: "anfajaha al-sa'id", meaning the hunter roused the animal from its resting place (so that it came out).
