أخبرنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله بن دينار العدل، حدثنا السَّرِي بن خُزيمة والحسين بن الفضل، قالا: حدثنا عفّان بن مسلم، حدثنا حمّاد بن سَلَمة، عن حُميد، عن أبي المتوكِّل، عن جابر بن عبد الله قال: كُنَّا إِذا أكَلْنا مع رسول الله ﷺ طعامًا لا نبدأُ حتى يكونَ رسولُ الله ﷺ هو يبدأُ (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: Whenever we ate food with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we would not begin (eating) until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself had begun.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
