It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used his right hand for eating, drinking and (putting on) clothes, and used his left hand for other tasks.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Important point: In our manuscripts it has been corrupted and written as "Asim from Ibn al-Musayyab bin Rafi'".

Grading: This narration is "sahih li-ghayrihi", but this particular chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason for its weakness is the weakness of Abu Ayyub al-Ifriqi (Abdullah bin Ali al-Azraq) and the inconsistency (idtirab) of Asim bin Abi al-Nujud in its chain, as al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar stated explicitly in "Nata'ij al-Afkar" (1/146).
Note / Clarification: Ibn Abi Za'idah refers to "Yahya bin Zakariyya".
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Abu Dawud (32) from Muhammad bin Adam, and by Ibn Hibban (5227) through the route of Abdullah bin Amir bin Zurarah, from Ibn Abi Za'idah, with this same chain. In Abu Dawud's narration, Ma'bad bin Khalid is mentioned alongside al-Musayyab bin Rafi'.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (44/26461) through the route of Husayn bin Ali al-Ju'fi, from Za'idah, from Asim, from al-Musayyab, from Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In this chain the intermediary between al-Musayyab and Hafsah has been dropped.
Reference / Source: It was narrated at length by Ahmad (26464) through the route of Affan bin Muslim, from Hammad bin Salamah, from Asim, from Sawa' al-Khuza'i, from Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator "Sawa' al-Khuza'i" is "majhul al-hal" (of unknown condition).
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (26465) through the route of Abd al-Samad bin Abd al-Warith, from Aban bin Yazid al-Attar, from Asim, from Ma'bad bin Khalid, from Sawa' al-Khuza'i, from Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): For details of the other variations over Asim bin Abi al-Nujud in this narration, see hadith (26460) of "Musnad Ahmad", since this is a portion of it.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), found with Ahmad (43/26283), Abu Dawud (34) and others.
