It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that a month and half a month (a month and a half) would pass over the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in such a state that no fire was lit in their houses, neither for a lamp nor for any other purpose (such as cooking). (The narrator says:) I asked her: What did you live on? She said: "On dates and water."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, and this chain is jayyid (good) because of Safwan bin Isa and his teacher Ibn Ajlan (Muhammad bin Ajlan). Reference / Source: Ishaq bin Rahawayh narrated it in his "Musnad" (970), and Abu Awanah in the Book of Riqaq of his "Sahih" (as in Ithaf al-Maharah: 22661), by way of Safwan bin Isa, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (13/249) narrated it from Abu Khalid al-Ahmar, and Hannad bin al-Sari in "al-Zuhd" (729) from Hatim bin Isma'il; both of them narrate it from Muhammad bin Ajlan. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Bakr bin Sadaqah differed in this, in what al-Hasan bin Dawud al-Munkadiri narrated from him in al-Tabarani's "al-Awsat" (6496) and Abu al-Shaykh's "Akhlaq al-Nabi" (861); he made it narrated through Ibn Ajlan from al-Qa'qa', from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, and then from A'ishah. Note / Clarification: Imam al-Tabarani stated explicitly that al-Munkadiri is alone in this, while others transmitted it through Ibn Ajlan, al-Qa'qa', al-Qasim, and then A'ishah. There is "lin" (some weakness) in al-Munkadiri's reliability. Important point: Imam al-Daraqutni in "al-Ilal" (3581) declared mistaken the narration of those who transmitted it through "Abu Salih from Abu Hurayrah", and he considered the route "al-Qasim from A'ishah" to be the correct one. Note / Clarification: This narration will come later at number (7257) by way of Urwah, from A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her).
