Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7253

Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah narrates from his father that he said: We spent a period of time with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and we had nothing to eat except "the two black things" (al-aswadan). He asked: Do you know what is meant by "the two black things"? He replied: No. He said: Dates and water.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Important point: This word is what is established in our manuscripts, whereas in the zawa'id of "Musnad al-Harith" (from which the author took this narration through two routes) and in other sources of the takhrij the wording is "عُمِّرنا" (we were granted long life).
Note / Clarification: "غبرنا" means: "we remained".

Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Reference / Source: This narration is found in "Musnad al-Harith bin Abi Usamah", as mentioned in al-Haythami's "Bughyat al-Bahith" (1114).
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (26/16244) narrated it by way of Rawh bin Ubadah, with this same chain.
