ما حدثنا أبو عبد الرحمن محمد بن عبد الله البَيرُوتي، حدثنا أبو فَرْوة، حدثني أبي، حدثني طلحة بن زيد، عن الأوزاعي، عن يحيى بن أبي كَثير، عن أنس بن مالك قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "مَن تكلَّمَ بالفارسيّةِ زادَتْ في خِبِّه (1) ونَقَصَت من مُرُوءَتِه" (2). [كتاب الأحكام]

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever speaks in Persian, his cunning increases and his muru'ah (manliness) decreases."

(1) في (ز) و (ب): خبثه، وفي (م) و (ص): حبه، ويغلب على ظننا أنَّ ما أثبتناه هو الصواب، فالخِبُّ، بكسر الخاء وتشديد الباء الموحدة: هو الخِداع والخُبث والغِشُّ كما في "القاموس" (خبب).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Manuscripts (Z) and (B) have 'khubthihi', while manuscripts (M) and (S) have 'hubbihi'. Our strong assumption is that what we have established in the text is correct.
General principle: According to the lexicon "al-Qamus" (root: kh-b-b), 'al-khibb' (with a kasrah on the kha' and a doubled ba') means deception, malice and cheating (ghishsh).
(2) إسناده تالف، محمد بن يزيد بن سنان والد أبي فروة - وهو يزيد - ليس بالقوي، وشيخه طلحة بن زيد - وهو القرشي الرقي - متهم بالكذب، وقال ابن عدي: وهذا الحديث بهذا الإسناد باطل، وقال الذهبي في "التلخيص": ليس بصحيح، إسناده واهٍ، بمرة، وقال الحافظ ابن حجر في "فتح الباري" 9/ 333: إسناده واهٍ.
Grading: Its chain is talif (ruined).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Yazid bin Sinan (the father of Abu Farwah Yazid) is not strong. His shaykh Talhah bin Zayd al-Qurashi al-Raqqi is accused of lying.
Reference / Source: Ibn Adi said that this hadith with this chain is 'batil' (false). Imam al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis" that it is not sahih and its chain is 'extremely wahin'. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar also declared it 'wahin' in "Fath al-Bari" (9/333).
وأخرجه ابن عدي في "الكامل" 4/ 109 - ومن طريقه ابن الجوزي في "الموضوعات" (1487) - عن عبد الله بن إسحاق المدائني والحسين بن محمد بن أبي معشر، كلاهما عن أبي فروة يزيد بن محمد بهذا الإسناد.
Details of the narration: Ibn Adi narrated it in "al-Kamil" (4/109), and through him Ibn al-Jawzi in "al-Mawdu'at" (1487), from Abd Allah bin Ishaq al-Mada'ini and al-Husayn bin Muhammad bin Abi Ma'shar; both of them narrate it from Abu Farwah Yazid bin Muhammad with this same chain.
