Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf, may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said something (harsh) to Sayyiduna Amir bin Fuhayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), a freed slave, whereupon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Wait, O Talhah, for he too took part in Badr just as you did, and the best of you is the one who is best to his mawali (freed slaves)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Here in the manuscripts the word "Ibn" was mistakenly inserted (it is not part of the text).

Grading: Its chain is "very weak".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is that Abd al-Rahman bin al-Hasan, Abd al-Malik bin Zayd (who is Ibn Sa'id bin Zayd) and Mus'ab bin Mus'ab in the chain are all "weak" narrators.
Reference / Source: For the biographies of the latter two narrators, see al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar's "Lisan al-Mizan" (4914) and (7768).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Ma'in said that Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman heard nothing from his father (Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him)) (i.e. the chain is broken).
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Abi Asim (337) from Muhammad bin Khalaf al-Asqalani, and by al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (287), "al-Awsat" (9305) and "al-Saghir" (1121) (and from him Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (5159)) from Hashim bin Marthad, both of them from Adam bin Abi Iyas, with this chain.
Important point: Al-Tabarani said that from al-Zuhri only Mus'ab bin Mus'ab narrated it, from Mus'ab only Abd al-Malik bin Zayd, and from Abd al-Malik only Ibn Abi Fudayk; Adam bin Abi Iyas is alone in it, and from Abd al-Rahman bin Awf this narration is reported only with this chain.
