Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The word established in manuscript (Z) is the correct one and agrees with the other sources; in the remaining manuscripts it was distorted here into "al-bayt" (the house).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): We established the word "sab'an" (seven) from the sources of the takhrij; manuscript (S) has "al-sab'", while in the remaining manuscripts the word does not appear at all.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Manuscripts (Z) and (B) have "fa-khtara min bani", with the addition of "min", and in manuscript (Z) it carries a mark of doubt (tadbib). We have recorded the text found in manuscripts (M) and (S).
Grading: Its chain is "very weak".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hammad bin Waqid and his teacher Muhammad bin Dhakwan are both weak narrators. We did not find this narration through the two of them from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir anywhere other than with the author (al-Hakim). Several narrators narrated it from Hammad bin Waqid, and several from Muhammad bin Dhakwan, by way of "Amr bin Dinar", not from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir. The author himself pointed after it to the narration from Amr bin Dinar.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-Ishraf fi Manazil al-Ashraf" (343), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (13650) and "al-Awsat" (6182), Ibn Adi in "al-Kamil" 2/ 248 and 6/ 200, Abu Nu'aym in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (18), and al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (1330) and (1493) and "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" 1/ 172, by way of Hashim bin al-Walid and Abu al-Ash'ath (Ahmad bin al-Miqdam al-Ijli), both from Hammad bin Waqid, from Muhammad bin Dhakwan, from Amr bin Dinar, from Ibn Umar.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi (391), al-Uqayli and al-Hakim (7130) reported it with the chain Yazid bin Awanah, from Muhammad bin Dhakwan. Yazid bin Awanah is "majhul", and according to al-Uqayli he is not corroborated in it.
Important point: Al-Sahmi said in the narration of al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi and the (first) narration of al-Hakim: "I think that Muhammad (bin Dhakwan) narrated this hadith to me with the chain Amr bin Dinar from Ibn Umar", meaning that his strong assumption is that he also heard it directly from Muhammad bin Dhakwan.
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym in "Tarikh Asbahan" 2/ 133 - 134 and al-Jawraqani in "al-Abatil" (162) narrated it by way of Abdullah al-Sahmi, from Muhammad bin Dhakwan, from Amr bin Dinar, and neither of them mentioned any doubt. Al-Jawraqani declared it "gharib" (singular).
Details of the narration: This hadith will come later in abridged form with the author (al-Hakim) under number (7172), with the chain Umarah bin Mihran, from Amr bin Dinar, from Salim bin Abdullah, from Ibn Umar, with the addition of "Salim" between Amr bin Dinar and Ibn Umar.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hammad bin Zayd contradicted the other narrators and narrated it from Amr bin Dinar, from Muhammad bin Ali al-Baqir, as "mursal": "Allah chose (from His creation) and chose the Arabs, then chose Kinanah from them, then Quraysh, then Banu Hashim, and then chose me from Banu Hashim."
Grading: This chain up to al-Baqir is "sahih".
Grading: The account of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) being chosen is authentically established from the hadith of Wathilah bin al-Asqa', narrated as marfu' in Sahih Muslim (2276): "Allah chose Kinanah from the descendants of Isma'il, chose Quraysh from Kinanah, chose Banu Hashim from Quraysh, and chose me from Banu Hashim."
Note / Clarification: On the topic of love for the Arabs there are also narrated hadiths that are not authentic. The author (al-Hakim) will soon bring such narrations from Salman, Anas, Ibn Abbas and Abu Hurayrah, whose numbers are respectively (7171, 7174, 7175, 8146).
