أخبرني مَخْلد بن جعفر، حدَّثنا محمد بن جَرير، حدثني محمد بن عمر بن علي المُقدَّمي، حدَّثنا الخليل بن عثمان (2)، قال: سمعتُ عبد الله بن نُبَيهٍ يُحدِّث عن جدَّته صفيةَ بنت شَيْبة، عن حَبيبةَ بنت أبي تَجْراة قالت: كانت لنا صُفَّةٌ في الجاهلية، قالت: فاطَّلعتُ من كُوَّةٍ بين الصَّفا والمَروةِ، فأشرفتُ على رسول الله ﷺ، وإذا هو يَسعَى ويقولُ لأصحابه: "اسْعَوا، فإِنَّ الله تعالى كَتَبَ عليكم السَّعْيَ"، قالت: رأيتُه في شِدَّة السعي يَدورُ الإزارُ حولَ بطنِه حتى رأيتُ بياضَ إبطَيْه وفَخِذيه (3).

It is narrated from Sayyidah Habibah bint Abi Tajrah (may Allah be pleased with her) that in the days of Jahiliyyah we had an upper room (suffah). I looked out from a small window between al-Safa and al-Marwah and saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) was performing sa'y and saying to his Companions: "Perform sa'y, for Allah Almighty has made sa'y obligatory upon you." She says: I saw him (peace and blessings be upon him) performing sa'y so vigorously that the waist-wrap was swirling around his (peace and blessings be upon him) stomach, until I saw the whiteness of both his (peace and blessings be upon him) armpits and thighs.

(2) تحرَّف في النسخ الخطية إلى: عمر، والتصويب من مصدري التخريج، وهو الذي أثبته المزي في شيوخ محمد المقدمي من "تهذيب الكمال".
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this was distorted here into "Umar"; it is corrected from the sources of the takhrij and from al-Mizzi's "Tahdhib al-Kamal" (under the teachers of Muhammad al-Muqaddami).
(3) حسن بطرقه، وهذا إسناد ضعيف، الخليل بن عثمان - وهو التميمي كما في رواية الطبراني - وعبد الله بن نُبيه لم نقف لهما على ترجمة. وضعفه الذهبي في "التلخيص".
Grading: This hadith is "hasan" on the strength of its combined routes.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This particular chain, however, is weak, because the biographies of al-Khalil bin Uthman (al-Tamimi, as in the narration of al-Tabarani) and Abdullah bin Nubayh are unknown. Al-Dhahabi also declared it weak in "al-Talkhis".
وأخرجه ابن خزيمة (2764)، والطبراني في "الكبير" 24/ (576) من طريق محمد بن عمر المقدمي، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: This narration was narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah (2764) and al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" 24/ (576) by way of Muhammad bin Umar al-Muqaddami, with this chain.
