Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 707

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the sun passed its zenith, Jibril (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Muhammad, get up and pray Zuhr." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed Zuhr at the time of the zenith. Then, when the shadow of everything became equal to it, he came for Asr and said: "Get up and pray Asr." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed Asr. Then, when the sun set, he said: "Get up and pray Maghrib." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed Maghrib. Then, when the twilight (redness) disappeared, he said: "Pray Isha." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed Isha. Then, when the true dawn broke, he said: "Pray the morning prayer." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed the morning prayer. The next day Jibril came again and led Zuhr when the shadow was equal to one's length, Asr when the shadow was twice one's length, Maghrib at the same time when the sun set, Isha when a third of the night had passed, and Fajr when it had become very light. Then Jibril said: "The whole time between these two times is the time of prayer."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) and well known, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) left it because of al-Husayn bin Ali al-Asghar, although he is trustworthy.
